7.1 Transport services

The A6 autoroute passes nearby providing direct, high speed links to Paris to the north and Lyon to the south east. The closest access points are at Auxerre (exits 19 & 20), Nitry (exit 21) and Avallon (exit 22).

The closest TGV station is at Montbard providing direct high speed access to both Paris (Gare de Lyon) and CDG Airport to the north and Lyon to the south east.

There is only one direct TGV service in each direction each day between Montbard and CDG Airport. It is a good, quick (1 hour) trip to CDG but it may require quite a wait at the airport (we waited 5 hours).

The closest railway station on the Paris Bercy/Clamecy line is at Mailly-la-Ville (about 4 km east of Mailly-le-Chateau). For local travel it is possible to use the train to travel between Mailly-le-Ville and either Auxerre or Clamecy, but not Avallon which is at the end of another branch line.

The proprietor of the local taxi is Chantal Beugnet (03) 8641 9383. Chantal will accept telephone bookings for collection from the station. I don't know if she understands English so that could be a problem.

We usually hire a vehicle from Hertz at CDG Airport and keep it for the duration of our stay. Another option would be to spend one or more nights in Paris before catching the train to Auxerre. Auxerre has plenty of hire car depots, including Hertz. It is then only a 30 minute drive on good local roads to our maison.
