Maison de Mahaut was originally two individual houses that both predate the
1789 French Revolution. The two-story maison (originally #38) was a bourgeois home with a shop in the front room that is now the salon/lounge. The single story
maison next door (originally #40) was a very basic home and a workshop
for a blacksmith. In 1977, #38 was renovated and the first floor was extended into the attic space of #40 to provide four double bedrooms.
The photo below is from a very old postcard and it shows Maison de Mahaut to the right of the street. ![]() As you can see, the exterior has changed very little over
at least the last 100 years.
This contrasts with the interior facilities which have been modernised to provide all of the comforts that we have come to expect in the 21st century. Interior photos are displayed on the next few pages. Maison de Mahaut provides a comfortable base from which you can discover the delights of the Burgundy region. It is also very tempting to simply put your feet up, relax and enjoy the ambiance of life in a quiet rural village. Link forward 3. Mailly-le-Chateau Link back 1. A superb location |
